SimsDirect for Peru

Express delivery from Sydney was a little slower than expected but, that said, my SimsDirect chip arrived in sufficient time before departure for Peru. At Lima airport, I inserted the chip and there was an immediate response from SimsDirect to accept the local network (which was reassuring) and that was the case while travelling the country even when I did not expect it to be - particularly in more remote parts away from the bigger cities and even with an older phone. I had no trouble communicating with family back in Australia through WhatsApp on my phone which gave everybody peace of mind and we could enjoy our trip and the beautiful people of Peru. Buying the chip before flying was one less thing we had to worry about on arrival in Lima and I would recommend it.

Convenient with reservations

Overall, having the Sim was convenient when out and about although connectivity wasn’t always the best and had to rely on hotel wifi at times. Customer support was really good. Some reservations as I would rather pick up a local sim which you can make calls on in each country ( being a UK based number was not the best and kept receiving sms msgs from company which were not pertinent to my usage). Only used 1GB of the data after 1 month, so would rather have been able to make calls and use sms.

Would use again!

I spent a month in Peru and the Galapgos Islands in April/May. This SIM worked well all throughout Peru. Reception was poor in remote areas bit I still got a few bars - enough to message family and check social media. There was no coverage in Ecuador/Galapagos but I knew that when purchasing. The only thing that could have made this SIM perfect, would have been if coverage included Ecuador/Galapagos.

South American Sim

Was a fantastic product for a reasonable price, as it covered all countries. Which is a great idea and saved having to purchase different cards every time you went to another country. The biggest problem I found, was, I was not able to recharge it while I was away. I found that out later. If you needed to have coverage for longer periods I should have purchased 2.

A few things didnt go to plan but the crew at SIMS Direct were quick to respond and help me through it all. Definitely recommend them!

How do I activate?

Step 1 Land in one of the countries listed

Step 2 Insert SIM card

Step 3 Turn on 'Data Roaming' in your mobile/network settings.

Step 4 Restart your device

You should connect within 5 minutes and you are all set. Happy travels!

What if I need help?

Our SIMs generally have no issues, however, nothing is a guarantee. Sometimes SIMs have technical issues that need troubleshooting.


If you land and your SIM does not work as expected then you need to follow these steps:


Step 1. Ensure you have followed all steps in your SIMs digital PDF guide.


Step 2. Reach out to us for support via Facebook live chat or email us at hello@simsdirect.com.au. We are active between 10am - 6pm AEDT.

How can I make calls & texts?

This SIM does not come with calls or texts. However, you can use your data to make calls and texts.


We highly recommend using data applications as a smart alternative.


If you are wanting to call internationally:


We recommend using Skype. You can purchase credit and use it to make international calls to any number in the world at very affordable rates that are much cheaper than international call rates. $10 will get you roughly 250 minutes worth of international calls.


It's just like using your mobile but it uses internet data to make the call. Very handy! Works for landlines and mobile numbers.


If you are wanting to call and text mobile numbers internationally for free.


We recommend using any of the following free apps.

Google Hangouts

Viber

Skype


All of these apps are handy to use while travelling.

How do I check my balance?

You can keep track of your usage by registering a ‘My3’ account with ThreeUK.

No recharges?

This SIM can only be recharged in the UK or with a UK credit card.


If you need more data or a longer duration you will need to purchase multiple SIM cards and swap them out as you go.

How do I find my new number?

Your new UK mobile number is printed on the back of the SIM packaging.

Is this enough data for me?

12GB of data over 30 days is HEAPS of data.


If you are planning on streaming videos frequently or downloading large files then you may want to grab a second SIM card for more data.
