I had a great experience with esim. Just be prepared to provide the required information for Simsdirect to set you up (instructions are very good). Once connected I was getting 5G coverage with download speeds 400Mbps+ (max 695Mbps!) and 40Mbps upload. Hotspotting was cr@p so I didn't use it. We travelled LA, San Fran, Vegas, Grand canyon and Disneyland and reception was always good (factor in your phone bands in this as some phones didn't have the frequency coverage and suffered reception wise).

Myself and my 2 sons all bought the eSim. This was so convenient as you don’t need to muck around with an actual SIM card - it is all set up electronically. After buying the product we got an email asking for some basic mobile phone details so the eSim could be linked to our phones. I recommend buying the product two days before you go so you get the email at home when you aren’t stressed, send through requested details (day 1), receive confirmation email of set up (day 2) - now you are good to land in your new location and can switch on your service from the moment you land. We used our eSim while driving from LA across 7 states to the Midwest. Service was great and it helped us use CarPlay for GPS in the hire car. I could make phone calls to my US family on the American phone number - I could also call and message my sons easily. Really was a game changer.
