Countries Australians Can Travel To

It’s been a while since Aussies have been able to travel across the world due to the current state of travel. However, this might not go on for longer as the Australian government is planning to open its borders by November. It’s exciting to think that we’ll be able to travel to different countries again, meet new friends and reconnect with loved ones.

To prepare for this, we’ve compiled a list of all the potential countries open for tourism & travel. We’ll keep this article updated with all the latest information, so keep it bookmarked and check in as we get closer to being able to travel again!

Singapore

The “Lion City” is one of the countries expected to open its borders to Aussies, with talks of an “Australia-Singapore travel bubble” similar to the “New Zealand travel bubble” which started in April this year. As per Tourism Minister Dan Tehan, there is a commitment for a bubble with Singapore to be “ready to go by the end of the year”.

Japan

Australia is reportedly in talks with Japan to open a travel bubble, along with other countries that have been able to keep their daily cases under control. If both countries can keep the virus in check, we should expect the “Japan-Australia travel bubble” to open as well, and we’ll be able to travel to the “Land of the Rising Sun” very soon.

United States

The U.S. is one of the countries open for travel for Australia, once we hit the 80 percent vaccine target and if the U.S. can keep the number of its daily cases under control as well. This would be great for Aussie travellers as there are plenty of destinations to choose from in the U.S., such as Miami, California, New York and more.

United Kingdom

Like the U.S., the U.K. is one of the countries that the government is planning to establish a travel bubble with once we hit the 80 percent vaccination target. With plenty of destinations to choose from such as Manchester, Edinburgh, London, & Belfast, Aussies will again be able to take in the culture and experiences that the U.K. has to offer very soon.

Canada

Canada is one of the countries open for travel for Aussies. However the catch is international travellers must be fully vaccinated before they can book their flights to and from the country, as per Qantas and Air Canada, which are the two major flight providers expected to be open for booking by December.

Fiji 

Fiji is set to reopen to international tourists by November which makes it one of the countries that Aussies can expect to be able to travel to when borders open up. Fiji Airways’ CEO Andre Viljoen has also said that “should the opportunity arise for an early travel bubble between Australia and Fiji based on vaccination rates, rest assured we’re ready to fly you there.”, so if a travel bubble is agreed upon by November, you could be able to travel to Fiji and enjoy the idyllic Pacific Island’s beaches.

New Zealand

While the New Zealand Travel Bubble started in April 2021, it ended abruptly in July due to rising cases of COVID-19 in both countries, which caused both governments to pause the bubble temporarily. The latest NZ travel bubble update is that New Zealand is expected to allow international travellers in by early 2022, which would be based on a tiered risk-based system. This system would determine what travellers should expect when they arrive in New Zealand, based on whether their country of origin is high-risk, medium-risk and low-risk. Travellers from high-risk countries could be subjected to a 14 day quarantine, while medium-risk travellers will have reduced quarantine or be allowed to self-isolate, and low-risk travellers will be allowed in without quarantine.

South Africa

Airlines are expected to open up travel between South Africa and Australia through Johannesburg as early as the 5th of January 2022, which is 3 months earlier than their previous target date of April 2022. This is in line with the New South Wales government's decision to remove quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated arrivals which is expected to significantly increase travel demand.

Bangkok & Phuket, Thailand

Among the list of destinations airlines will move ahead with in line with the country's international borders reopening is Bangkok & Phuket. Flights will depart for Phuket and Bangkok starting on January 12 & 14, 2022 respectively.
